Welcome to K9DS

Heading 1

K9 Detection Sport (K9DS) was developed to give dogs and handlers a different venue to expand their scent work skills. The skills developed for other scent sport venues are directly applicable to K9DS, even though some of the target odors are unique. The elements in K9DS resemble the tasks of professional working dogs. Like most scent sports, K9DS focuses on teamwork – the dog and the handler work together to solve the scent puzzles in training and trialing. Overall, the aim of K9DS is for humans and their canine companions to have fun!

There are 3 elements in the K9DS venue:

Callie Kiehl and Donna Morgan Murray are experienced handlers and judges in multiple scent sport venues.

Callie is proud to say she is happily addicted to dog sports!  Callie's love for dog competitions began when her neighbor (who soon became her mentor and dog show mom until she went to college) observed Callie teaching her Labrador Retriever tricks in the front yard when Callie was 10 years old.  4H and the world of junior handling was Callie's introduction to what is now her passion!  While Callie has competed in almost all dog sport venues and sees herself having fun competing for many years to come, she has truly found her happy place as an event coordinator.  Callie loves nothing more than to see handlers and their canines find success.

Donna is trained as a scientist, certified as a Professional Canine Fitness trainer, and participates actively in canine performance sports.  She has been raising and training German Shepherd Dogs for over 30 years.  Donna's GSDs are actively training and competing in various obedience and scent sport venues.  Her dogs also have tracking, agility, canine parkour, trick, fitness, Fetch, and Farm Dog titles.  Donna is licensed to judge AKC, ASCA, NASDA, UKC, and USCSS events.  What Donna loves most about the various scent sports is watching dogs of all breeds solve the scent puzzles that she sets for them!

K9DS is opening a challenging yet fun opportunity for handlers and their dogs, and we are so excited to offer it!
